Dealing with Ant Invasions

Types of Ants

Ants can cause several different problems when they invade a home. They are always looking for food and water, but they tend to die in the process. The result is very unpleasant. They may leave their small carcasses in containers of food, and they may not always be detected by the people who are preparing this food.

Although there are three main types of ants, it is very difficult to tell them apart without looking closely:

Worker

•Male

•Queen

Methods of Entry

Ants enter the home in a variety of ways. They can easily find small cracks and crevices in the walls, ceiling and floorboards. They communicate information back to the colony, so once a single ant finds its way into the home, others are likely to follow.

Health Risks

Pets might be tempted to eat these tiny critters as well. If the ant is carrying a disease, a dog or cat could get sick after chewing them up out of sheer curiosity. Veterinary bills do not tend to be small, so it is better to avoid letting the ants into the home in the first place.

Methods of Control

The best way to prevent ants from making themselves at home is to seal all food containers tightly. Although there are many over-the-counter remedies for eliminating ants, few of these methods produce the desired result. In fact, many of these methods can cause additional harm when insect sprays and chemicals are left on the floors, counters and other surfaces. These chemical residues can be as harmful as the original ant problem, so the best course of action is to contact our qualified and experienced professional ant-removal service.
