Can Pests Infest Your Car?

Securing your home is an important pest-control protocol. However, many people still overlook the possibility that pests may invade their car as well. There are small openings in many vehicles, and pests can get inside if the temperature drives them to seek out any warm place in order to survive. Many vehicles contain entry points that could easily be repaired, but the threat of a pest invasion has not occurred to the owners.

Why Pests Enter Cars

Pests tend to enter cars to get relief from extreme temperatures. The cold months of winter can be deadly to fleas, ticks, bed bugs, rodents and even some birds. These pests will enter any area that provides shelter from the cold. However, vehicles that have open or broken windows are particularly susceptible to being invaded. Pests will also tend to invade cars that are parked next to dumpsters, open trash cans and heavily wooded areas.

Recent episodes from the popular radio show Car Talk demonstrate how common this phenomenon really is, and the hosts suggest methods people can use to protect their vehicles. The list of bugs that have been discovered to invade cars is impressive. Flies, ants, roaches, mice, birds, snakes and even a lizard have found their way into a car to get protection from the cold. The hosts recommended cleaning the vehicle, parking it away from certain areas, sealing the windows and doors, and even fumigating the vehicle.

Many of these suggestions are very good; however, there are also situations where calling a professional is necessary. Our dedicated pest control company keeps abreast of the latest techniques and methods used for pest control. Contact a service representative today.
