Nobody likes mosquitoes flying around the yard when they are trying to enjoy pleasant summer evenings, but did you know that mosquitoes are more than just nuisances?

The reality is that mosquitoes are extremely dangerous creatures. Some would even say that they are the deadliest pests on the planet. The reason is that they carry several harmful diseases, including West Nile virus, dengue fever, malaria and yellow fever.

West Nile Virus

You don’t have to be in a tropical climate to be susceptible to contracting the diseases listed above. For example, mosquitoes have transmitted West Nile virus to Americans in the United States, and this concerns the medical community because West Nile virus can be fatal in rare instances.

Dengue Fever

Dengue fever is another serious illness, and unlike West Nile virus, it causes painful and debilitating symptoms. Among these are high fever, painful headaches, pain in the joints and muscles, vomiting, nausea and rash. Those who contract this malady a second time are in danger of developing dengue hemorrhagic fever, and it is a complication that is much worse than the original disease.

Malaria and Yellow Fever

Malaria is an ailment that causes chills, fever and other flu-like symptoms. It has been known to cause death in its victims. Yellow fever is a virus that causes sufferers to experience a loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headaches, fever and muscle pain. These symptoms may only last for a couple of days. However, some people enter into a toxic phase when symptoms reappear. At this point, symptoms can be extremely treacherous.

Mosquitoes thrive where there is standing water, so if a body of water exists near you, there is a chance that a mosquito infestation could develop. Pest control companies can help you eliminate these areas and make your yard inhospitable to these deadliest of creatures.
