There’s nothing quite like opening up your windows on warm spring days to enjoy fresh air. Unfortunately, opening your home to the delights of spring can also lead to intrusions by unwelcome visitors. Ants, bees, houseflies, wasps and moths can all make their way into your home through openings in screen doors and windows. If you’re eager to keep pests out of your home this spring and summer, take time today to inspect your home for spots where insects can enter.

Keeping Unwanted Intruders Out

Cleaning your window sills and washing the exteriors of your windows is likely on your spring cleaning to-do list. It’s a good idea to inspect screen doors and windows as you complete these tasks. While cleaning, check around windows and doorframes for any cracks or openings. Even the smallest of spaces between a window or door and its screen can be used by insects that are attracted to the warmth inside your home.

After you’ve looked around window and doorframes, take time to closely inspect screens themselves. Look for any tears, holes or small openings. Even tears that are too small for a straw to fit through can be a welcoming doorway for insects. Remember that it’s always better to seal holes that you aren’t sure bugs can fit through than it is to leave it to chance.

Before you start sealing screen doors and windows, call in a pest control technician who can help you identify other entry points for pests on your property. Once you’ve identified problem areas, use screen tape or patches to make quick repairs. If screens are very damaged, replace them as soon as possible to keep insect invasions at bay.
